Welcome to The Silver Lining Academy of Performance Website. We are a Performing Arts School

who value teaching young people the creative arts in an affordable and in-depth way. We are a new school in development based in Ashton under Lyne. 

My name is Sophia Clegg and I am the head of S.L.A.P When starting the school I developed three values I wanted to see come to fruition in all areas of the academy. 

 

Firstly, at the school we value the importance of an affordable and in depth education on every topic. As a working class child myself, growing up I didn’t have access to the same standard of teaching other children might have had, so it is of the utmost importance that we are able to keep our classes affordable for you and your child’s sake. No child should be deprived of something they are interested in and see a future in simply because it costs too much.

 

Secondly, we love students. You probably notice most of our staff are students themselves. I made this decision due to personal struggle as a student. I have been working hard to be a teacher my entire life but the issue for most students is they can’t get work in the field they want because they have no prior experience and they can’t have prior experience without the work and so they are stuck in this vicious cycle. At The Silver Lining Academy of Performance we support students in every area from teachers to marketing and everything in between, giving young people a chance to get paid experience in their field and open up so many doors for them in the future. A great positive from having student teachers means they are able to apply fresh knowledge they have been taught into their own classes and pass the experience straight to your child.

 

And finally, the industry of performing arts can often be perceived as a toxic environment, however at The Silver Lining Academy of Performance we pride ourselves on being a positive and supportive space where our pupils will be taught to practise the same values. The performance industry is a place where cooperation and teamwork are invaluable, which is one of the important skills your child will learn in their time with us. Getting our children to understand that being kind and helpful to others will help them get further in the industry is very important to us as it will both help their progression as a performer and in life. 

 

Running a school with these values at heart I believe will ensure a bright future for your child, both in and out of the academy.
